12 Mother of The Bride Dos and Don’ts

Don’t forget, this is your mum’s moment, too! Here’s how to ensure she nails it…

8 Rules for tantrum-free totsBrides fashion director Bryony Toogood, who’s styled plenty of mini models for our shoots, reveals her top tips.

1 AVOID SYNTHETIC FABRICS and tight elasticated sleeves or waistbands – they’re hot, scratchy and make funny noises when they move. Would you want to wear that?

2 AYOID SALLOR SULTS OR anything knickerbocker- related (read: girly) for page boys. You think they look cute – they usually cry and run a mile.

3 DON’T MAKE THEM LOOKKLIKE THEY’RE IN FANCY Dress. Little girls love princess dresses, but keep them pretty and sof. And avoid overdressing them – children get embarrassed, too!

4 MAKE SURE THEIR SHOES FIT the day before, not six months ago. Let them also have their shoes to wear in a bit. Ill-ftting pumps are a recipe for tears.

5 LOOKS THAT ALWAYS WORK? For summer weddings, try a simple Tana Lawnfabric or sof chifon empire dress with Rachel Riley pumps for girls, and chic French-style linen trousers and button-down shirts with Converse for boys. In winter, add coloured tights and cashmere cardis for girls, and heavier trousers with a blazer and brogues for boys.

6 DON’T BE TEMTED to replicate the bridesmaid trend for mismatched dresses on fower girls – little girls sufer from dress-envy. If you do want them in diferent outfts, at least stick to the same palette.

7 WHEN IT COMES TO HAIR, little girls tend to have fne hair, so avoid heavy combs or tight buns that might hurt. Likewise, let the boys’ hair do its own thing. Boys like hats, so a trilby could also work.

8 WE ALL HAVE OUR FAVOURITE THINGS, so if your pageboy won’t relinquish his Spiderman suit, let him be.

She’s so worth a new one!DO get her to think statement, but not to go overboard – because…You DON’T want guests looking at her for all the wrong reasons.
