A baby’s Mouth

A babys Mouth

Babies sometimes develop a blister on their top lip from sucking, but this is of no significance and should be ignored. White flecks inside the mouth that cannot be removed are caused by a fungus, Candida albicans, and produce an infection known as thrush or monilia. If the mother has vaginal thrush it is easily transferred to the child at birth. Other sources of infection are teats, dummies and contaminated sterilising liquid. See p. 262 for the treatment of thrush.
