CORONATION STREETSTAR ALISON KING TALKS ABOUT TURNING INTO HER TV CHARACTER AND THE PERILS OF DOING REALITY TV…
Her day job is causing trouble on the cobbles as Coronation Street’s boozy man-eater Carla Connor, but actress Alison King was all class when we gave her a high-fashion makeover in 2008 – even though she was changing into her favourite comfy Ugg boots between pictures!
Having been on the show for just 13 months, Alison admitted to using her onscreen alter ego to get her own way, telling:If someone is being cheeky out on the street, I just slip straight into Carla mode and they run a mile!
She prefers her personal life to remain private, and Alison – who was 34 at the time – told us she would never do a reality TV show, saying:There’s a danger of putting yourself out there and it all going very wrong.
She’d recently seen the fall-out from putting your life on screen, being the shoulder to cry on for close friend Sarah Matravers, whose boyfriend – former EastEnders actor Marc Bannerman – had publicly dumped her after he entered the I’m A Celebrity -Get Me Out Of Here! jungle and fallen for Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews. The whole thing was disgusting, said Alison.
‘I thought he behaved ridiculously for a man of his age. It’s vile what happened. It was really horrible to watch.
But since then, a lot has changed for the actress, who this year was nominated for Best Actress at the British Soap Awards. She gave birth to a daughter, Daisy Mae, with her former boyfriend, Corrie sound technician Adam Huckett, in 2009, and this year announced that she’ll be taking an extended leave from Coronation Street in May to pursue other work projects and spend more time with her daughter.
