When tennis star Andy Murray wed his fiancee Kim Sears, well-wishers in their thousands lined the streets to cheer and the eagerly anticipated event was dubbed Scotland’s royal wedding. The teenage sweethearts exchanged vows at Dunblane Cathedral before a congregation including Andy’s mum, former Strictly Come Dancing star Judy, his tennis-playing brother Jamie and former British tennis No. 1 Tim Henman.
As the newlyweds emerged afterwards to huge cheers from the waiting crowds, even the normally earnest tennis ace couldn’t resist a beaming smile.
The former Wimbledon champion looked dashing in a kilt made from Murray of Elibank tartan, with a buttonhole of white roses and Scotland’s national symbol, the thistle. His Sussex-born bride looked lovely in a bespoke ivory Jenny Packham gown of silk chiffon and hand-beaded Swarovski crystals, with a full skirt and open back, worn with a three-metre silk tulle veil and Swarovski crystal floral headdress.
It was an incredibly happy service, the cathedral’s minister the Rev. Colin Renwick, who performed the ceremony, told My blog!. When they kissed, it was very moving. They are obviously very much in love. He later added: Andy is one of Dunblane’s own and there’s genuine affection H and pride in him.
