In a span of a few seasons, we have seen a dizzying amount of fleeting trends (hello, maximalism; goodbye, normcore), entrances and exits at revered fashion houses (hello Demna Gvasalia, John Galliano and J.W. Anderson; goodbye Alexander Wang, Alber Elbaz and Raf Simons), unusual casting choices (hello, Donatella Versace for Givenchy) and even resurgences (hello, vinyl and Birkenstocks).
With so much happening and things to obsess over, it has become increasingly difficult to stand out in fashion. Come on, fashion’s M.O. is to essentially stand out from the rest. Thus, the constant (and sometimes endless) search for the It anything. But as we have come to figure, the next It something (especially with shoes and bags) is really an unexpected stroke of genius at a moment’s notice.
