Custard Recipe

Cooking Time: about 10 minutes

You will need for 4 servings:

3 level tablespoons 2 rounded tablespoons custard powder sugar

1 pint milk

1 Blend the custard powder with a little of the milk.

2 Bring the remaining milk to the boil.

3 Pour on to the blended custard, stirring all the time.

4 Rinse the pan with cold water, return the custard to the pan and bring to the boil over a gentle heat, stirring all the time.

5 Boil for 2-3 minutes, add the sugar.

6 If cold custard is required, cover with a plate to prevent a skin forming.

Fruit trifle

No Cooking

You will need for 4 servings:

3-4 slices stale cake 1 small can fruit salad

2 tablespoons 1 pint thick custard raspberry jam

1 Spread cake with jam and cut into cubes, place in a glass bowl.

2 Drain juice from fruit and sprinkle over the cake. Arrange fruit, chopped if preferred, on the cake.

3 Pour cool custard over and leave until cold.

Mandarin trifle: Make as above, using chocolate cake and mandarin oranges instead of fruit salad.
