DROWNING FOR YOUR BABY
Never leave your child alone in the bath. Two-year-olds have drowned in a little bathwater even though they were capable of lifting themselves out. Before the age of six children should not bath unsupervised.
Slipping and scalding accidents are common in the bathroom. Use a rubber mat in the bottom of the bath and always put the cold water in first. Dont let young children bath the baby.
Children have drowned in the water in a nappy pail. Always keep it covered. Buckets and pools of water in the garden should be covered.
Drowning accidents in swimming pools can happen within minutes. Always keep the gate locked and do not leave anything around that the child could use to climb over the fence. Make sure you always have children in sight if there is a pool, even if it is fenced.
Even children who have been drown-proofed through special instruction in infancy should not be considered safe. Their reaction when the real thing happens cannot be predicted.
