When Kate threw caution to the wind and applied for First Dates in a bid to fnd love, she had one man in mind her dad. The 27-year-old’s father John suffers Guillain Barre syndrome a rapid-onset muscle weakness as a result of damage to the peripheral nervous system and he’s been paralysed since Kate was 14 years old. My parentsmarriage is so inspiring, Kate tells New Idea. My mum [Karyn] has stuck through [it] and been there for Dad ever since he got sick, and just to watch their bond and their love no matter what challenges have hit them, they’ve just really got through it.
Kate says the secret to her parentsrelationship success is sharing a good laugh. Humour has defnitely played a huge part in my family’s life, she explains. [Like when] Dad tries to rub in his moisturising cream, and his hands are paralysed so he does not do it properly and he has white cream on his face!So it makes sense Kate is hoping to meet someone with a good sense of humour, who knows how to make her smile!
