Food poisoning for child
Cream cakes and the like, as well as meat or other foodstuffs that have been contaminated by bacteria, can make a child ill. Symptoms may show within an hour of eating the food or even 12 hours later.
Vomiting, diarrhoea and stomach cramps are the most common signs of food poisoning.
Give frequent sips of electrolyte solution (117). If this is impossible, give Coca-Cola or plain water; although these are not ideal, they may prevent dehydration in an emergency if the vomiting and diarrhoea are severe. See a doctor if the symptoms do not pass within four hours, or if the child does not seem to be improving, or cannot keep the electrolyte solution down.
