Your Personal Emotional Tapping Technique for Effective Weight Loss and Appetite Control

As we have discussed during this secret, dieting rarely accomplishes its stated goals.

One of the main obstacles to successful weight control is the hot-wired emotional response of the amygdala that drives us to eat all the wrong things to satisfy our unhappiness or dissatisfaction.

An unexpected but surprisingly effective method to cool down the amygdala’s hot responses was developed in the seventies and has evolved into a well researched method for dealing with a whole range of issues that affect human behaviour. The method relies on gently tapping with the fingertips on eight key areas of the body in turn.

These are areas that we instinctively touch or massage when we are stressed. These areas are linked to acupressure points that can influence our behaviour. The gentle tapping reduces activity in the activity and that in turn leads to a reduction in the levels of the stress hormone, cortisol.

The most surprising element of the recent research is that a test group of women who tapped for fifteen minutes a day were able to lose an average of eight kilos in an eight week period without dieting or following an exercise plan. And the weight stayed off.

The real problem with stress is that it becomes such a familiar habit that we end up looking for reasons to experience it every single day. So part of the tapping technique is to identify the areas in our life that are producing the stress.

Rather than simply focusing on losing weight, we need to find out where all the stress is coming from In EFT, we are encouraged to score the items that are making us angry, upset, afraid or just stressed and give a mark out of ten. The higher the score, the more upset you feel about the issue. A score of zero would mean that you felt nothing about the issue.

Once you have identified the area or issue that’s causing you the greatest amount of stress, you need to phrase how you feel in a simple statement. If work was the main source of tension, you could say, for example “Even though I hate my job and the constant pressure…, you then add the expression “I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

The first set of tapping is on the soft edge of the hand between the wrist and little finger. You can tap with two fingers of all your fingers and use whichever hand is most comfortable. It’s great to repeat your statement at least three times before moving on to the next tapping area. Tap with the fingertips of both hands gently on the top of your head. Keep tapping as you repeat your original statement.

There’s no limit to the number of taps or repetitions but be aware of any changes you might feel in relation to the stress source. Score the issue again. If it is the same as before, no problem.

Move onto the next area and keep tapping whilst you repeat the statement. Once you notice the score dropping below five, you can change your statement into a positive affirmation. “I’m feeling so much happier now that I can deal with work so much more positively”.

After tapping the crown of your head, you move to your temples, close to the outer edge of your eyes, tapping once again gently as you repeat your statement.
