How to clean Baby bottles
Bottle brush and optional teat brush.
After use, bottles should be rinsed with cold water then scrubbed with liquid soap and very hot water. After thorough washing and rinsing, sterilise. Teats should be rubbed inside with coarse salt to remove the milk coating. Or use a little brush specially made for cleaning teats. Sterilise.
A padded plastic carrier bag which opens flat. It is useful for carrying nappies and bottles when you are going out, and you can open it flat to use as a waterproof base for changing nappies.
1 Draw up pattern pieces to full size on brown paper or graph paper and cut out.
2 Cutting layout for canvas only. Out of canvas cut 1 main pack piece, 2 outer and 2 inner pockets. Out of towelling cut 1 main pack piece and out of plastic sheeting cut 2 pouch pockets (dotted line to fold). Turn to wrong side and tack down seam allowance at top and lower short ends of both canvas and towelling main pack pieces.
3a Turn to wrong side and machine down seam allowances at top raw edges of both outer pockets.
Fold up pockets at dotted lines and lay in place (see picture 1 for placing) to right side of canvas main pack piece. Pin a length of tape over the raw wide edges of each pocket folding the tape at the top to form a handle. Machine tape in place down
3b Lay and pin another length of tape across centre of main pack piece to cover open ends of outer pockets and machine in place down edges.
4 Turn to wrong side and machine down seam allowance at top raw edges of both inner pockets.
Turn in and press seam allowance to wrong side at remaining 3 raw edges. Lay inner pockets in place (see picture 1 for placing) to right side of towelling main pack piece and machine down 1 long and 2 short edges. Machine vertical rows of stitching down inner pockets to form compartments of required size.
Lay towelling and canvas pieces right sides together, machine down side edges and turn right sides out.
5a Fold pouch pockets in half at centre right sides in and machine down side edges. Turn seam allowance over to wrong side at top raw edges.
5b Slip pouch pockets in at openings between canvas and towelling main pack pieces. Pin and top stitch folded edges together to hold pouch pockets in place.
6 Cut press-stud tape into 2 lengths and separate each length into 2 halves. Lay 1 half of each length to side edges of towelling and machine in place. Lay and machine corresponding halves of tape to lower side edges of towelling.
7 To carry the pack, fasten press-studs at sides and wear with loop handles over the shoulder.
To change the baby, open the pack towelling side up. Keep wet nappies in one pouch pocket, dry ones in the other, bottles in the outer pockets, cream, baby lotion, nappy pins, etc. in the inner pockets.
