I’M DESPERATE FOR A PROMOTION AND HAVE A MEETING WITH MY BOSS BUT FEAR I WON’T MAKE THE BEST IMPRESSION

TOSS: “You’re desperate for a promotion but worried about what will happen if you do not get it, so not getting it becomes your focus, says Farrell.

BOSS: “Look at the fears that are getting in the way of you walking into that meeting and putting your best foot forward.

“Then imagine that you already have the promotion. What does it feel like? How is your life different? Align your conscious dressed to head off to the gym. Then give yourself an imaginal pat on the back for having the mental strength to override your desire for more sleep and remind yourself how beneficial the gym workout will be and how good you will feel physically and about yourself.

MY EQUAL COLLEAGUE IS GETTING ALL POWER HUNGRY AND BOSSING ME AROUND.

TOSS: Getting caught in the victim mentality and an inner conversation about it only reinforces the mental picture that you are trapped and powerless.

BOSS: “Visualise yourself responding honestly in a calm, polite and respectful way and see her responding positively in return, says Farrell. “Alternatively, you could even see her getting upset and notice how you handle it in an equally calm but firm manner, knowing that her response is her choice, and your response is your choice.

“Practising responses that are new to you and imagining a positive outcome will allow you to feel more comfortable about delivering them in real life. See the two of you working together as part of a team, knowing that you are equals.

I JOKE THAT MONEY ISN’T THAT IMPORTANT TO ME, BUT IT’S ONLY BECAUSE I’M UP TO MY EARS IN DEBT WHILE MY FRIENDS SEEM TO BE SITTING PRETTY.

TOSS: Saying that money is not important sends a dangerous message. “By saying money is not important and focusing on not having any, you are literally creating the outcome that you say you want and both your conscious and unconscious minds are in alignment, says Farrell.

BOSS: “Visualise yourself having a chat with money and try to mend some fences. Let money know you do care and you want it to stick around, Farrell says. Then visualise the strategy you are going to use, Brecht suggests. “See yourself stopping doing the things that waste your money and see yourself doing the things that allow you to save money or spend it on things that are really of value.

desire with your unconscious mind, then imagine all of the steps leading up to the announcement of your promotion. Imagine dressing appropriately, getting to work on time, doing your job well, mastering the necessary skills, walking into the interview confidently knowing, in a calm, matter of fact way, that the job is yours, but that you will also survive if you do not get it right now.

I’M NERVOUS ABOUT ATTENDING A PARTY WHERE I WON’T KNOW ANYONE. I CAN JUST IMAGINE STANDING THERE LIKE THE NINA NO-MATES.

TOSS: “The best place to start is to refer to a previous experience where you were in your element at an event under the same or similar conditions, says Dr Ievleva. “I caution against focusing on what you worry about, e.g. being left out, and to focus on what you’d prefer.

BOSS: “Imagine being fully engaged in meeting people -showing interest, paying attention, drawing positive attention – but be careful with focusing on what is not within your control. Imagine being relaxed yet focused on what is going on around you, feeling confident, shining and magnetising and striking up conversations with others.

I REALLY WANT TO LOSE 10 KG BEFORE MY BYRON VAY-CAY, BUT I DON’T BELIEVE IT WILL HAPPEN.

TOSS: Giving mental space and resources to the prospect of failure gives failure room to breathe and become a possibility.

BOSS: “Reframe your goal as positive, says Farrell. “Nobody likes tolose. Visualise yourself fitting into a particular outfit as though the goal is already achieved. Notice how you feel and what you had to do to get there.

“See yourself choosing healthier food. Imagine enjoying the flavour of healthy food and doing regular exercise with a smile on your face, knowing how the results will look and how you feel in yournewbody. Breathe it in and really be her. The girl who succeeded, because she’s the one who followed the steps necessary to get to where she wanted to go, not because she was afraid of what would happen if she didn’t, but because of how good she’ll feel in herself for having achieved the goal.

I’M STRUGGLING TO MAINTAIN A REGULAR WORKOUT HABIT. I GO TO THE GYM FOR A WEEK AND THEN TREAT MYSELF TO A WEEK OFF.

TOSS: “Imagery could help here but be warned, it does not take the place of getting out of bed and heading to the gym, it can only help us build and develop the resilience and habit of going to the gym through reinforcing the attitudes and behaviours we need to remain on task, says Brecht.

BOSS: “See yourself hearing the alarm going off and pulling the blankets back over your head to go back to sleep. Then see yourself pulling the blankets aside, leaping out of bed, or similar, and getting.
