Who are some of your favorite hairspirations?
Some of my favorite hair inspirations are Diana Ross and Teyonah Parris.
What are some of your favorite makeup products to use when you want to glam it up and when you want a simple, more natural look?
I have a combination of favorites I use when I want to glam it up. I really like MAC, Sephora and Makeup For Ever. I’ll also wear liners, blush or some cool eye shadow from palettes I bought from Walgreens or Rite-Aid, if the colors work.

When I want to keep it simple, I’ll use some of those same brands’ products— just fewer of them. For my base, I’ll just use MAC powder, no foundation.
What is your skin-care routine, and what products do you love?
My skin routine consists of me drinking more water—I know it plays a big part. I wash my face every morning. I follow up with a moisturizer while my face is still damp to help with absorption, and I also apply an under-eye cream. I use a facial scrub every two days or so to remove any dead skin. My routine is different
at night if I’ve been wearing makeup that day. If I’ve been wearing makeup,
I remove as much as I can with a facial wipe, wash my face with a cleanser and a face-cleansing brush, then use Witch Hazel to remove any leftover makeup. I finish with a moisturizer. If didn’t wear makeup that day, I’ll just wash my face with water and a warm towel at night and then follow up with moisturizer.
I’ve been trying something new I learned about that I really love. I do a plain yogurt and turmeric mask once a week. I can really see and feel the different in my skin. Other skin care products I really love are Avalon Organics Cleansing Gel and Renewal Cream, both with vitamin C. The products are very gentle on my skin. I also love Dermalogica Total Eye Care, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Facial Clay and Yes to Cucumbers facial wipes.
What inspires you most in life and in your career?
What inspires me most is to see good deeds being done in the world—acts of kindness. It confirms to me that there is still a lot of light in this world, despite the darkness we are often times forced to see. I am inspired when I see people taking a stand for what they believe in. I am inspired by love, nature, beauty, endless possibilities and art.
What inspires me most in my career is seeing all the changes happening in the entertainment industry, in Hollywood, with black people obtaining and creating more opportunities than ever. There are many more doors being built, opened and kicked down. It’s very exciting and inspiring to see so many people of color living their dreams and making it happen.
I am also very inspired when I see great acting and the expansion in the different types of roles in storytelling and being played by women of color.
