Magical celebrations and joyous gettogethers have transcended religion and cultures, and many belief systems are drawn to sharing time with family and friends and giving gifts. Its the one time of year many of us get to share a meal with loved ones and take time out from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. Equally, it can be a time which is fraught with anxiety; my stepdad used to get very drunk and make Christmas a misery. And for some, being plonked back into the family dynamic can be surface with unresolved emotional issues.

All this said, I’m actually a big fan of the festival, and I love the fact that, in general, people try to be kinder to each other. I always have an open house at Christmas and invite people who are single or have no family over to experience a cosy and loving time. THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS Christmas comes from the Celtic pagan celebration of the winter solstice which celebrates the rebirth of the Sun. As such, it has become a time to reflect on any struggles our soul may have had in the past year or even during our entire lives. It is a great time to meditate, reflect and heal, before welcoming a new cycle the following day, with a time of feasting and joy. To show your appreciation to those who have stood by you on your souls journey make sure you send some handwritten notes. Its also to honour yourself.

Why not give yourself some love self-love by taking a bubble bath? While you relax, congratulate yourself on all the achievements youve made over the year, and have faith that the circle of life goes on. December solstice 22nd sees the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and the summer in the southern. But no matter where we are on the Wheel of the Year “ or on the planet “ this usually means festivities! The original Yule log was a part of a fire festival said to give extra strength to the Sun in its battle to rise after the longest night. If you are lucky enough to have a log fire, you can light it and dedicate the flames to your future happiness and the well-being of those you love. Dont have a working fireplace? Try lighting a small bonfire in the garden where you can symbolically burn away your fears and let go of any baggage you may be holding on to.
