John Cornyn (born February 2, 1952) is an American politician who is the senior United States Senator from Texas. A member of the Republican Party, he has served in the Senate since 2002. He previously served as the Attorney General of Texas from 1999 to 2002.

Cornyn was born in Houston, Texas, and raised in Midland, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in law. He practiced law in Texas before being elected to the Texas Senate in 1992. He served as the Senate Majority Leader from 1997 to 1999.

Cornyn was elected Attorney General of Texas in 1998. He served in that office until 2002, when he was elected to the United States Senate. He was re-elected in 2008, 2014, and 2020.
